Fulfillment vs. Feeling Good?

Fulfillment – isn’t that what we all want! Then why don’t we have it?

This question was asked by my recent client in a coaching session. That led to further exploration of the desire of fulfillment and an inspiration for this blog.

So is feeling good and feeling fulfilled the same?

The big house or luxury car might give us feeling of power or pride. Travelling around the world might give us excitement and adventurous feelings. A successful business or job might get us recognition, comfort and make us feel like we’ve “arrived”.

Though still after all the excitement, we search for a certain feeling that can be constantly with us, like a part of our being. Becuse pleasurable feelings come and go and do not stay forever.

Many surveys show us, the more we strive for achieving things that make us feel good…the more we end up in despair of not having or being enough. We might even have a deep empty feeling inside.

Usually we confuse ‘feeling good’ or pleasure to fulfillment. Most of us are in a trap where we feel, some day when I get everything sorted; my finances, my relationships, my career, my health and my sense of self-worth and rest, I will be fulfilled.

Fulfillment is feeling the life within, in every moment. “It is like being life itself!

It is a state of harmony, peace and congruence with life and can be as simple as being fully alive in every moment.

When we’re being who we are and express ourselves fully in what we do, without any external pressures and beliefs about how we should or should not be; when we really know that life is working with us, we experience fulfillment.

So even a very successful person with all the ‘feel good’ factors might feel the lack of fulfillment while a person going through life challenges or any struggles externally can still be fulfilled and at complete peace with life.

As long as we continue to look for fulfillment in things outside of us, we’re likely to be temporarily filled and constantly hungry!

When we are fulfilled deeply, we still have desires to do or have pleasurable things and accomplish our goals, but these things are not fulfillment itself; rather expressions of our internal fulfilment.

What do you think about fulfillment, please share your thoughts, I would love to hear from you.

Much love.
