5 Famous Quotes I Don’t Want My Daughters To Believe In.

My daughters love inspirational and motivational quotes, and so do I.

Quotes are bold, strong statements. But they’re not just statements, they have hidden messages that impact us at a much deeper level.

They play with our minds and leave an impression on our subconscious mind and belief system.

As a mom of teenage daughters, I love to pay attention to what my girls read and believe.

There are some famous quotes that I totally disagree with, as they can create negative and limiting beliefs in young minds. And I don’t want my daughters or any young person to believe in these.

Here are those five on my list:

1. “When your signature becomes an autograph, that’s when you’ve arrived.”

REALLY?

Does that mean, all the people whose signatures are not famous have never arrived and are not worthy?

Isn’t this statement extremely superficial and demeaning?

This gives a wrong message to young minds, that their worth and value is determined by their external accomplishments, like fame and money; and not by their real character, qualities, and behavioural aspects.

At a subconscious level, this makes one believe that it’s only being special and famous, which means that one has truly arrived. This makes us feel ‘never good enough’.

Think, if a famous celebrity behaves badly with people, still are they the ones who have arrived?

And if that’s true, How about you ask these celebrities and famous people with autographs, how much arrived they truly feel?

The truth I want you and my daughters to believe is this –

You have Already Arrived.”

You arrived the day you were born. YES!!

“You’re not born to prove anything to others.”

What’s important is that you feel great within.

Find your gift, your purpose, your passion and work towards being your best in life. That’s it.

2. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

I’ve never heard a woman say that diamond is their friend, let alone a best friend, even if she loves diamonds (you can ask any yourself).

I’ve always found my best friend, guide, and mentor in – “People and books.”
If we’re talking about things here, then definitely:

“Books are a girl’s best friend.”

I am sure many women would vouch for this.

I am glad that my daughters love books too and already believe this.

3. ‘No Pain No Gain.’

What this quote implies is – that we do not get anything in life till we work hard for it.

That’s indeed right. Working hard is an essential ingredient for excelling in anything in life, whether a skill or a habit.

But who says it always has to be painful??

There’s a hidden subliminal message in this quote for young minds that working hard is always painful.

I feel there’s nothing more enjoyable than working hard, have you not experienced that?

Have you seen a baby trying so hard to walk, fall down to get up again and try again to walk a step?

Babies work hard, right? Do you think it’s painful for the baby to learn the first few steps to walk? No.

Isn’t it true that the baby actually enjoys the process of learning and is thrilled in putting this effort?

I remember my childhood days when I used to work hard to write my lessons, to craft the drawing homework. I’ve seen children when they work hard on art or another project, most of them enjoy the whole process a lot.

The truth I want you and my daughters to believe is this –

Hard work brings joy and satisfaction, especially when you’re working in a flow. “

Society’s common beliefs and notions program our mind in such a way that while growing up we start thinking that hard work is painful and then we start fearing the pain.

It’s not the hard work but it’s the fear of pain associated with it that makes many people give up even before they start trying.

There are so many money messages we’ve got since childhood. And these two famous ones are quite contradictory to each other –

“Money is the root of all evil.”
“Money can solve all of your problems.”

Truth is, money is not evil and money is not a problem solver, on its own.

If money could solve all problems, we wouldn’t have so many wealthy and famous people committing suicides, in our society.

Money is just a tool, it is energy, and a resource to help you live a comfortable life. What it does for you, depends upon what you do with the money.

I am not talking about those people here, who have survival issues.

If one doesn’t have food to eat or a roof for shelter then money surely can solve his/her immediate problems, and nothing else can help them till they’ve fulfilled the basic necessities of life.

Once a person’s survival needs are happily met, then money doesn’t have much to offer.

You can spend more and more on luxuries and comfort, but if you feel lonely or low, if you don’t have people you can trust, money can’t bring you true connection and trust. Money can’t uplift your spirits for long.

We have enough examples of, how money doesn’t make you feel satisfied and content, you need to experience that yourself.

“Money can only enhance what you already feel.”

“Money is an energy. This will enhance what you already feel within you.”

If you feel happy and free, money will make you happier and freer. If you feel miserable and worried, the money will make even more miserable and worried.

Money doesn’t change you into a grateful and joyful person itself. That energy is your own reality.

5. “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”

This quote again emphasises on the fact, that when you work hard as an entrepreneur, maybe live a life of a workaholic, then you can have a rich and bright future.

The truth is if you have an entrepreneurial venture, you must put your energy and efforts into it and work hard. But if you keep on postponing living your life, and you put your life, and your relationships on stake because of that, you’ll actually never have that wonderful future after all.

Have you not heard people saying, just one or two more years and then I’ll be set. Then I’ll pay attention to my health, to my partner, my children.

The reality is you might or might not even have a partner then, your children and your health might already be in bad shape then. It might be too late.

And who knows how long you have to live?

What I want my daughters to live by is this –

“Plan and work hard for your passion and your future. But do not forget to live fully in the present.”

When it comes to life, ‘Balance and living in the present moment’ is the Key.

I would love to know your views on this, please share.

Are there any quotes that you especially like or dislike, because of any reason. Please share with me and I’ll share them here too.
