Self-love and Self-care – What and How?

It seems like a trendy topic in today’s world, where we get bombarded by messages from media and social sites on how to pamper ourselves by incredible holidays, relaxing Spas, an awesome pair of shoes or a delicious chocolate cake.

Everything from beautiful clothes, bags to the latest gadget, drink or ways to create a sexy body; try to pull our attention.

There are so many distractions & attractions to help us enjoy our life and forget our worries.

Self-love and self-care are not just things meant to repair our tired, exhausted unhappy, discontent selves.

“It is not something we do to rejuvenate ourselves from time to time or to escape our busy lives…..

It’s not the essential oil bath with candles a yoga or meditation class, great food or shopping.

Rather it’s something we cultivate every single day till we become who we are.

Self love is self-care, self-belief, self-acceptance, self-respect and self esteem.

It’s Getting Our Shit Together.

“It’s Understanding Ourselves in a Better Way.”

To stop overthinking and live in the present moment.

To let go of that regret or hurt (which hurt you 20 years ago).

To forgive your ex, who betrayed you long ago OR forgive yourself what wrong you’ve done in the past and learn from it.

It’s that difficult process of looking at your shame, your guilt, your resentments, your grudges, your failures in the face.

Then start making peace with them one by one.

Self-care is to get up every morning with an intention that today you’ll be happy no matter what.

“Self-love is taking control of your life.”

It’s doing whatever it takes to train your mind to think only the thoughts, that generate peace and happiness for you.

To let go of any other thoughts; whether thoughts of self-doubt, worry or anxiety that generates pain and misery in your life.

It’s talking to a wise friend or hiring a life coach or therapist to help you get there. Getting some support when you’re feeling low or don’t know what to do to get clarity in life.

It’s pushing yourself to do things that will help you in the long run; whether it’s ‘saying No’ to that toxic relationship, practising mindfulness or exercising daily to get fit.

There’s nothing wrong in pampering yourself or enjoying pleasures of life.

Though beware of making it as a shortcut to happiness rather than doing the real work on yourself.

Self-love is not being so hard on you and criticising yourself so much.

It’s not waiting for others to take care of you and appreciate you, rather appreciating yourself.

It’s motivating yourself to take action, it’s taking a risk even if you’re scared, for your passion and purpose.

It’s to keep on moving forward, keep on learning and growing till you figure out what your purpose on this planet is.

Self-love and Self-care is often not a very easy and pretty thing to do.

It’s easy to blame others and yourself for your condition. It’s tough to take responsibility to bring the change.

It’s easy to complain and whine and get lost in a spiral of self-blame and pity. It’s courageous to look in the mirror and ask yourself “How can I come out of this? And then take action.”

Self-love is to accept yourself the way you are, and keep evolving to connect with the truth of who you are.

Start seeing the good in every thing, appreciate little things in life and show up for yourself every single day.

Love Yourself!

Much Love to you.
